Round One ...Check! Now time for Round two..

Yep you read it correct and know what I'm talking about...MORE SNOW!
I still can't believe that 30 inches fell over the weekend but trust me I have been out in it shoveling my heart out.  Lets first re-live the first storm.  Everything started out Friday just as I had hoped for the schools went on time and just let out at noon as well as the Y closing at 2.  Even Geico let some of their employees leave early :) All of this was in anticipation for the storm to come.  All 80+ parents had been called some multiple times early in the morning on friday to make sure they knew what time they HAD to pick up their child.  At one of my sites all of the children were gone by one o'clock...of course this was not the site I was at!  So at the site I was at 2pm came and went, 3pm came and went...finally at 3:45 our last child was picked up and we could finally leave and get excited about this BIG winter storm coming!
The snow fell and it was beautiful!
Saturday was a lazy day for the most part.  When I woke up from a nap of Saturday afternoon I smelled something funny.  Kevin said he didnt smell anything.  So I just ignored it, well tried to.  Throughout the afternoon I continued to catch the weird smell more and more...and each time I asked Kevin if he smelled it he said no so I was beginning to think maybe I was crazy!  Finally after dinner I could no longer ignore the smell and began to research what a natural gas leak smelled like...and no it does not smell like gasoline!  natural gas is odorless so the gas companies scent it with some weird m word that I can't remember.  After some research I called my Dad and asked him what I should do and he told me to go down stairs and look at something on the furnace and the smell was overwhelming in the basement!  I knew at that point I need to call the gas co.  Needless to say the gas company said they would be out but I needed to get ventilation into the basement.  I explained to the man on the phone from the Gas Co. that it is an underground basement and could not open the windows and his response was "there has to some way to get in ventilation until the workers show up".  Off we went trying to clear off our cellar doors that had atleast a 4 foot drift on top of it.  Kevin got the thing cleared off pretty quickly!  Workers show up and he instructs Kevin to go find the pipe on the outside of the house that lets out the steam from the furnace.  What?!  Is this man crazy...how is he going to find a white pipe in the midst of 30 inches of snow?! But Kevin went out and found it and cleared the snow away.  The worker continued to use his handheld gas checker ( i'm sure it has a name but you get the point) and beep beep beep beep we had a gas leak!  I wasn't crazy afterall :)  They were able to fix it right then and we were fine.

Big Snow Storm round two expected to start this afternoon!
Here is what the news stations are telling you to do in preparation for round 2 with an expected 15plus inches of more snow to fall.  Possible fresh snow totals up to 20 inches!  Lets do the math, thats a total of 50 inches that could be in our front yards by the end of tomorrow!
"As you prepare for the next round" ...

make sure you have the following;
batteries
flashlights
battery powered radio
food you can eat without cooking

make sure to do the following around the house;

  1. I would absolutely love to hear what Mike's comment would be about your "checklist" for the snow. I'm sure he'd have some smart remark :)
